Y & T

Y&T (Yesterday & Today) is a legendary rock band that has been active since the late 1970s. The band was formed by Dave Meniketti (guitarist and vocalist) and Phil Kennemore (bassist) in Oakland, California. The band’s initial line-up consisted of Meniketti, Kennemore, Leonard Haze (drummer), and Joey Alves (rhythm guitarist). Y&T’s music is a blend of hard rock and heavy metal, with bluesy undertones. The band’s sound has been described as “powerful, melodic, and timeless”. Their music is characterized by Meniketti’s soulful vocals, Alves’ rhythmic guitar playing, Kennemore’s thundering basslines, and Haze’s hard-hitting drumming. Y&T’s first album, “Yesterday & Today” was released in 1976. The album was a commercial failure but it helped the band gain a following in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1981, Y&T released their breakthrough album, “Earthshaker” which featured the hit single “Hurricane”. The album was a critical and commercial success and it established Y&T as one of the leading hard rock bands of the 1980s. Y&T’s popularity continued to grow throughout the 1980s. The band released several successful albums, including “Black Tiger”, “Mean Streak”, and “In Rock We Trust”. The band toured extensively and played to packed houses around the world. Y&T was known for their high-energy live shows, which featured extended guitar solos, thundering drums, and sing-along choruses. Despite their success, Y&T never achieved the same level of fame as some of their peers such as Van Halen and Aerosmith. However, their music has had a lasting impact on the hard rock and heavy metal scene. Many modern-day bands such as Metallica, Guns N' Roses, and Queensrÿche cite Y&T as a major influence on their music. Y&T has undergone several line-up changes over the years. In 2011, Phil Kennemore passed away after battling lung cancer. However, the band continues to tour and record new music. Dave Meniketti remains the only original member of the band. In conclusion, Y&T is a legendary hard rock band that has stood the test of time. Their music has influenced generations of rock musicians and their live shows are remembered by fans around the world. Y&T may not have achieved the same level of commercial success as some of their peers, but they have left a lasting legacy in the world of heavy metal and hard rock music.
