Donna Summer, born LaDonna Adrian Gaines, was a legendary American singer-songwriter, actress, and painter. She is regarded as one of the pioneers of disco music and has influenced generations of artists with her soulful voice and uplifting rhythms. Summer was born on December 31, 1948, in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in a musically gifted family. Her mother was a choir singer, and her father was a priest who sang gospel songs. She started singing in church and the high school choir, and it was clear early on that she had a natural talent for music. However, her parents were against her pursuing a career in music, so she moved to New York City to join the cast of the rock musical "Hair." Her big break came in 1975, when she was signed by Casablanca Records and released her first album, "Love to Love You Baby." The title track became an instant hit and helped usher in the disco era.
