Description:Während die Scorpions sich in Europa noch langsam nach oben strampelten, waren sie in Japan bereits eine anerkannte Grö?e, und VIRGIN KILLER war das erste Album, das im Land der aufgehenden Sonne vergoldet wurde. Es war also höchste Zeit für die erste Reise in den Fernen Osten. Vier Monate nach Veröffentlichung von TAKEN BY FORCE traf die Gruppe 1978 in Tokio ein. Vier Konzerte standen auf dem Programm, jeweils eines in Osaka und Nagoya und zwei in Tokios Nakano Sun Plaza. Diese beiden Shows wurden für das Live-Doppelalbum TOKYO TAPES mitgeschnitten, das auch als Abschiedsgeschenk für den scheidenden Uli Jon Roth gedacht war. TOKYO TAPES dokumentiert eindrucksvoll, was die Scorpions schon immer ausgezeichnet hat: Ihre mitrei?ende und elektrisierende Live-Präsenz, ungemeine Spielfreude, eine Intimität mit ihrem Publikum, die Gänsehaut erzeugt, und natürlich musikalische und technische Brillanz. In Tokio war die klassische Besetzung mit den beiden herausragenden Gitarristen Rudolf Schenker und Uli Jon Roth sowie dem charismatischen Frontmann Klaus Meine in der Form ihres Lebens. Sie spielten mit den Songs, änderten sie nach Lust und Laune, bezogen das Publikum ein und nahmen sich die Freiheit zur Improvisation. Ein gutes Beispiel ist ??Fly To The Rainbow?. The Scorpions Tokyo Tapes were captured only days after Cheap Trick's At Budokan in April 1978. Though hardly as inspired or successful, the Tokyo Tapes set still serves as an ideal greatest-hits collection of the Scorpions' first decade. This recording also showcases the spectacular playing (and occasionally, the dreadful singing) of guitarist Uli Jon Roth, who would soon leave the band for a misguided solo career, but displays some jaw-dropping technique here, most notably on the epic "We'll Burn the Sky." The rest of the band also puts in competent performances on such early standards as "In Trance," "Fly to the Rainbow," and "Speedy's Coming."

The first live album by German rock band Scorpions. Roth commented about the recording of the album: "Tokyo Tapes was a peak time, we have played together for all these years and it all came together at that time." I recommend.

The original version of this album is one of the best live albums in hard heavy metal and with this remastered re-release with extra tracks it becomes a must-have album. Even so, we have a negative point because I think the historical notes could be more complete, as could the technical sheet. But the rare photos make up for it. Here is a collection of reissues that will force you to buy all of the band's albums. Thank you Scorpions.
