From liner notes:
These notes are to indicate the pairs of records that were layered together to create new tracks, including the speeds at which the turntables (SL1200 standard) were set in order to sync the tempos.
This is the 2nd in a series of collected tracks where pairs of music recordings are layered over each other in an attempt to recycle older pieces of music into new hybrids. This is meant to encourage the manipulation of music by dj's and non-dj's alike: try this at home with your own phonograph, cd, or mp3 players!! The (#.#) values translate as percentage of change in speed for each track that will allow them to synchronize.
To create your own mix ?recipe?: take two songs and count how many beats each has in during a single minute. Then take the larger value and divide it by the smaller value and this result should be roughly the percentage that you would need to speed up the slower track to make it beat-match the faster one.
Another aspect to layering pieces of music is to look at the song structure of each song. Count the beats and write down the numbers for each time the beat shifts into a verse, chorus, bridge or solo. Most popular music is in 4/4 time signature and follows a pop song structure closely. If you can find recordings of just the vocals and instrumental portions of different tracks, then you can find ones that have parallel structures and fit together well.
