This version of Hours Were The Birds comes as a 1xCD. - With the release of breakthrough albums Masterpiece and Capacity, Big Thief's Adrianne Lenker has established hers as one of the most powerful voices in music. As Consequence of Sound describes it, "Thanks to the swift ascent of Big Thief, singer-songwriter Adrianne Lenker has become one of the most praised indie folk artists of the last five years." While her output with Big Thief is what brought her music to the attention of most who hold her in such high regard, Masterpiece is not the beginning of the story. "My first solo record I made was Hours Were the Birds," Lenker explains. "I moved to New York and, starting from complete scratch, had nothing to show anybody that was representing what I did, other than stuff I made when I was 13. So, I decided I should record a solo album of my songs that I had been accumulating."Housed in a four-panel cardboard sleeve.

© 2014 Saddle Creek."Hours Were The Birds" is the intimate debut solo album by Adrianne Lenker, presented here on CD and released by independent label Saddle Creek. Recorded when she was still in her early twenties, the record captures a raw and deeply personal folk sound built around acoustic guitar, gentle arrangements, and Lenker's unmistakably fragile yet powerful voice. The songs feel like diary entries set to music: quiet, spacious, and full of poetic images about memory, family, love, and the strange beauty of everyday moments. This CD edition offers a warm, organic listening experience that invites you to sit with the lyrics and let the subtle dynamics of each track unfold over time. "Hours Were The Birds" is a contemplative, late-night kind of album, ideal for listeners who appreciate honest songwriting, acoustic textures, and a sense of emotional closeness to the artist.
Adrianne Lenker has become widely known as the singer, guitarist, and principal songwriter of the critically acclaimed band Big Thief, but "Hours Were The Birds" reveals the core of her artistry in a stripped-down, early form. Her writing is characterized by vivid storytelling and unusual melodic turns, and over the years she has earned a strong reputation in contemporary indie folk for her distinctive guitar work and for lyrics that are both vulnerable and mysterious. Alongside her success with Big Thief on international stages and festival line-ups, Lenker's solo catalog has been praised for its emotional depth and literary quality, making "Hours Were The Birds" an essential piece in understanding her artistic evolution.
The album is released by Saddle Creek, a respected independent label based in the United States that has built its name on nurturing distinctive, songwriter-driven music. Known for championing influential indie and folk-leaning artists, Saddle Creek has a long history of supporting musicians with a strong artistic vision and allowing them the space to develop across multiple records. With "Hours Were The Birds," the label underlines its commitment to intimate, thoughtfully crafted albums that reward attentive listening and stand the test of time. | | | No. of tracks: |
