A follow-up to their 2017 LP Humanz, it features guest appearances on 2 of its 11 tracks: with Snoop Dogg alongside Jamie Principle on â??Hollywoodâ??, and George Benson on the albumâ??s first single â??Humilityâ??.

With the announcement of The Now Now, the band also introduced a new fictional band member, Ace from Cartoon Network's animated series The Powerpuff Girls. In the story, Ace is a temporary replacement for Murdoc, who has been incarcerated. Gorillaz is singer 2D, bassist Murdoc Niccals, guitarist Noodle and drummer Russel Hobbs. Created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, their acclaimed eponymous debut album was released in 2001.
