Description:Formed in 1970, Jade Warrior were one of the most original British bands to emerge during the Progressive Rock era. The first incarnation of Jade Warrior featured Tony Duhig (guitars) and Jon Field (flutes, percussion), both of whom had been in the Psychedelic group July, and Glyn Havard (bass, vocals). Signing to the Vertigo label, the band recorded their self titled debut album in March 1971. A remarkable work, â??Jade Warriorâ?? would be the template upon which the band would build their unique sound â?? venturing stylistically between ethnic music, melodic, gentle ethereal and ambient sounds and heavier guitar driven rock. Upon its release, â??Jade Warriorâ?? was acclaimed by critics and has since acquired legendary status for its sheer inventiveness. This expanded Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly remastered from the original Vertigo Records master tapes and features an early, previously unreleased version of â??Telephone Girlâ?? as a bonus track. It also restores the original album artwork and features a booklet with new essay. -

The self-titled album "Jade Warrior" on CD by Repertoire captures the early vision of the British progressive/ethno-rock band Jade Warrior. This edition presents the group's distinctive blend of atmospheric rock, tender flute passages, and subtle Eastern influences, all wrapped in a detailed remaster that respects the original analogue warmth. The album moves between delicate, almost meditative moments and more powerful, guitar-driven sections, creating a cinematic journey that rewards focused listening from start to finish. Fans of early 70s progressive music and exploratory rock will appreciate the album's dynamic contrasts, unusual song structures, and strong sense of mood.

Jade Warrior were known for fusing Western rock instrumentation with textures and scales inspired by Asian and world music. Their work stood out in the early progressive scene for its emphasis on ambience and soundscapes rather than sheer virtuosity, making their records feel both experimental and surprisingly accessible. This CD is an excellent entry point into their catalogue, offering a coherent, immersive listening experience that shows why the band has retained a loyal cult following over the decades.

Repertoire, the label behind this CD edition, is a specialist in high-quality reissues of classic rock, prog, and related genres. The company is known for carefully curated catalogues, solid sound preparation, and attention to packaging details such as informative booklets and period-accurate artwork whenever possible. With its focus on preserving and re-presenting important albums from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, Repertoire helps keep influential yet often overlooked bands like Jade Warrior accessible to new generations of listeners and collectors.

As a band, Jade Warrior occupy a respected niche in progressive rock history. While never a mainstream chart act, they earned critical recognition and a devoted fan base for their adventurous approach to composition and sound design. Their albums have long been sought after by collectors of early prog and art-rock, and modern listeners often rediscover them as hidden gems that anticipated later developments in ambient, world-influenced rock, and cinematic music. This CD reflects that legacy, presenting a key work from a group whose influence extends well beyond their original era.
