| Description: | Peppermint Twisters is an album by Joey & The Starliter Dee, released in 2014. The album is a oldies CD. - EU-only collection. Joey Dee led the house band at New York's Peppermint Lounge, immortalizing the club in his 1961 chart-topper 'Peppermint Twist'. Together with the Starliters, Joey worked out a funny stage act with some unbeatable dance routines. The group was one of the chief exponents during the Twist craze. They were joined on stage by three teenage girls from Spanish Harlem, who would become known as the Ronettes. The racially integrated group thrilled crowds with their high octane dance music. This quintessential collector's edition contains 26 remastered tracks from Joey Dee & the Starliters' most celebrated years, consisting of a variety of the sensational recordings they made primarily for the Roulette label between 1960 and 1962. The classic 'Peppermint Twist' has been included here as well as other highlights that show off the band's ability to play not only the twist, but genuine rock & roll and rhythm & blues as well. Some of the material here isn't available on other collections, nor have these great recordings ever been previously compiled on the same CD. |
