| Description: | Century Xxi - France by Various Artists, released 1 July 1997.
This version of Century Xxi - France comes as a 1xCD. - PIECES OF HECTOR ZAZOU, URBAN SAXFRANCE is a new chapter of the CENTURY XXI series, a collection of CD dedicated to the new composer of the next century. The series began three years ago, with two volumes dedicated to American composers - Glenn Branca, Ben Neill, Carl Stone, Michael Gordon, a.o. - to continue with two volumes of British composers - Nyman, Fitkin, Martland, Gough, Peyton Jones, a.o. - now the new issue dedicated to French composers.
The CD, compiled by Bruno Letort, composer and host of a contemporary music program on Radio France, and Renzo Pognant, curator of the series, presents a spectrum of new composers whose musical interest s are very broad.
In this CD the curators have tried to present different musical worlds by artists that are looking for new ways to mix musical languages many times very far one from the other (Inuit songs, African rhythms, Balinese colors) or rooted in the same culture: classic, rock and jazz."Century XXI-France" is a carefully curated CD compilation that offers a focused snapshot of contemporary sounds and trends emerging from the French music scene of the 21st century. Conceived as a stylistic journey rather than a collection of isolated tracks, this various-artists release brings together a broad spectrum of genres and moods that have shaped modern French music culture - from refined electronic textures and innovative pop to atmospheric downtempo, indie nuances and club-oriented productions. The sequencing of the tracks is designed to create a coherent listening arc: calmer, more melodic pieces introduce the listener to the sonic identity of current French production, before the compilation gradually opens up to more rhythmic, dance-infused and experimental contributions. As a mixed-artist CD, "Century XXI-France" puts its emphasis on diversity and contrast: organic instruments meet digital sound design, intimate vocals alternate with instrumental pieces, and radio-friendly tunes stand side by side with more underground-minded tracks. This makes the compilation equally suitable as attentive home listening and as an inspiring backdrop for creative work or social gatherings. With its focus on France, the album invites listeners to discover how strongly the country's producers and songwriters contribute to the international evolution of electronic music, pop and related styles in the new century. The manufacturer Newtone is known for presenting niche and scene-oriented productions with care and attention to detail. Releases from Newtone typically stand out through well-thought-out concepts, coherent compilations and a strong sense for musical quality beyond short-lived trends. By concentrating on distinctive projects and carefully assembled anthologies, Newtone caters to listeners who appreciate discovery and stylistic breadth. "Century XXI-France" fits seamlessly into this philosophy: it functions as both a musical calling card for contemporary French creativity and a collector's item for anyone interested in well-curated, cross-genre compilations. |
