The eleventh studio album by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd, released on 30 November 1979. The Wall is one of the best-known concept albums. I recommend.

"Wall". The most conceptual album in history and one of the most controversial for Pink Floyd. Many do not like him, do not understand, but even more people consider him a true masterpiece of art, not even just music. I must say right away that I belong to the latter. This album is blamed for a large number of short, incomprehensible and incomprehensible songs that serve only that notorious concept, they say, there is no melody, no sensible improvisations, only the text and its natural place in the narration. However, I don't think so. In my opinion, although the songs are so short for the most part, each carries a musical grain in itself, each has its own melody and a piece of the mood of the whole album. Even if there is much less room for the former classic Pink Floyd of the early 70s, the group is still a genius for the fact that they manage to combine the old scale and chic of music and a new rigid conceptual component. For me, so on "The Wall" there are no such straightforward compositions, here even one and a half minute opuses are good (for example, "Goodbye Cruel World" or "Vera"). And everywhere, I repeat, I feel that good old Pink Floyd, which has just passed into a new form. Throughout 26 compositions, a picture of the terrible loneliness of the main character, rock musician Pink, is drawn in front of the listener, we see everything from his birth to the symbolic ending of the story - Pink, with a wild cry, destroys the Wall built by him. The narrative concerns almost all aspects of his life, both external and internal, focusing, of course, on Pink's psyche and memories. It's not so easy to figure out and understand this album. It took me several years. I remember how after the first listening I had some kind of psychological nightmare at night. If I dwell a little on individual songs, then I would mention "The Thin Ice" (very beautiful and catchy), the trilogy "Another Brick in the Wall" (great melody!), "One of My Turns" (very soulful, sincere and varied), "Hey You" (lyrically, tragic and insane in Waters' guitar solo and vocals), "Nobody Home" (I think this killer piano ballad is the saddest I've ever written, just listen ...) , "Comfortably Numb" (just brilliant, Gilmore is a masterpiece!), "The Trial" (operetta-style court; schizophrenic chorus and very varied vocals) and the final "Outside the Wall" - such a simple truth that it is extremely difficult to punch with your heart someone else's wall. Bottom line: a masterpiece for all time; as long as there is a problem of loneliness and rejection by society (and these things are unlikely to ever leave humanity), this creation will be relevant. Thinking about the assessment is even somehow ridiculous - I would put everything one hundred, if it were possible. If you feel bad, listen to "The Wall" alone (or alone) and in the dark, and you might get better.

The story revolves around the fictional Pink Floyd's isolation behind a psychological wall. The wall grows as various parts of his life spin out of control, and he grows incapable of dealing with his neuroses. The album opens by welcoming the unwitting listener to Floyd's show ("In the Flesh?"), then turns back to childhood memories of his father's death in World War II ("Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 1"), his mother's over protectiveness ("Mother"), and his fascination with and fear of sex ("Young Lust"). By the time "Goodbye Cruel World" closes the first disc.

Classic Floyd that no music library should be without. The lyrics and story are nothing short of genius. The fact that albums come in a paper case rather than a jewel case is a bit of a letdown, but maybe I will buy a jewelcase version.

One of the most important albums of world music in the 20th century. A large and complex conceptual work. Unfortunately, humanity is still continuing to build walls ...
