| Description: | Rediscovering a great composer is possible with the new GENUIN CD of works by Maria Herz. She was born in Cologne in 1878 and died in New York in 1950. The singer Christiane Oelze, the Asasello-Quartett, and the E-MEX-Ensemble for New Music have partnered up to present a cross-section of the work of the Jewish composer, who used at times the pen name Albert Maria Herz. From arrangements of Bach to lieder as well as string quartets and mixed chamber music, the works span stylistically from the enthusiasm for baroque music of the 1920s to free tonality. All this is excitingly new, well worth hearing, and recorded superbly!Recorded:

Presented in a digipak, including a 35-page booklet with texts in German and English"Sterne steigen dort." is an ambitious contemporary classical CD that brings together the expressive soprano artistry of Christiane Oelze with the refined chamber music playing of the Asasello Quartett and the E-MEX-Ensemble. The album focuses on finely crafted modern works that explore the relationship between voice and instruments with great sensitivity: transparent textures, intense dynamic arcs and a poetic, often introspective atmosphere characterize the program. Lyrical, text-focused vocal lines meet precise, sometimes sharply profiled instrumental writing, creating a sound world that is at once intimate and radiantly clear. Throughout the CD, there is a strong sense of dramaturgy: the pieces are arranged so that contrasts of mood, density and tempo form a compelling narrative arc, making this recording ideal for concentrated listening as a complete musical journey rather than just a collection of individual tracks.
At the interpretive center of the recording is soprano Christiane Oelze, known on the international concert and opera stage for her finely nuanced timbre, clear diction and deep musical intelligence. She has established herself particularly in art song and oratorio, where her ability to shape text and phrase with emotional depth has been widely recognized. The Asasello Quartett complements her vocal presence with a sound that is both highly precise and remarkably flexible: the quartet is known for its openness to contemporary repertoire and for bridging classical tradition with modern idioms. The E-MEX-Ensemble, specialized in new music, adds further color and structural clarity; its experience with complex scores and refined ensemble balance allows the often intricate textures to remain transparent and comprehensible at all times.
The label Genuin has built a strong reputation in the classical music world as an independent company dedicated to artistic integrity and high-quality sound. Based in Germany, Genuin works closely with its artists, often focusing on distinctive, carefully curated projects that might be overlooked by larger mainstream labels. The productions are characterized by audiophile recording standards, clear acoustic imaging and a strong emphasis on authenticity rather than artificial studio polish. Over the years, Genuin has become a respected address for listeners who value sophisticated repertoire choices and lovingly produced, collector-worthy editions. "Sterne steigen dort." fits seamlessly into this philosophy: a thoughtfully conceived, sonically refined CD that will appeal to fans of contemporary vocal and chamber music seeking depth, subtlety and a distinctive artistic voice. |
