"Finnischer Tango - Ist das Glück nur ein Traum?" is a CD that opens a window onto the melancholic, witty and gently off-beat world of Finnish tango, interpreted by the idiosyncratic singer, writer and cultural icon M.A. Numminen together with vocalist Sanna Pietiäinen. Instead of presenting tango as pure drama and pathos, this album plays with the contrast between the dreamy, often bittersweet mood of the songs and Numminen's characteristic mixture of seriousness, irony and warmth. The result is a very personal, atmospheric journey through the emotional landscapes of longing, quiet happiness and the question hinted at in the title: is happiness something lasting, or just a fleeting dream? Subtle arrangements and a strong sense of storytelling make this recording an intimate listening experience that is equally suited for attentive late-night listening and for discovering the special colour of Finnish tango for the first time.
M.A. Numminen is one of Finland's most distinctive and long-standing artistic personalities. Active since the 1960s, he has worked as a singer, author, composer and performer, always moving freely between genres, from chanson and jazz-tinged pieces to experimental music and, of course, tango. His work is characterised by intellectual curiosity, humour and a love of linguistic nuance, which he brings into his interpretations without turning them into parody. Sanna Pietiäinen complements him with a clear, expressive voice that captures both the fragility and the emotional intensity of these songs. Together they create a dialogue between male and female perspectives on love, hope and disillusionment, giving the traditional form of tango a fresh, reflective and contemporary touch.
The label Trikont, whose releases are distributed by Indigo, is known for its independent spirit and for presenting music that deliberately goes beyond the mainstream. Instead of chasing short-lived trends, Trikont focuses on strong concepts, musical authenticity and cultural diversity. The catalogue ranges from global roots and folk recordings to politically aware compilations and unusual individual projects that give a platform to strong artistic voices. With "Finnischer Tango - Ist das Glück nur ein Traum?", Trikont once again underlines its reputation for discovering special productions that broaden musical horizons and open up new listening perspectives for an international audience.
