| Description: | Mahler: Urlicht is an album by Alois / Franz Farnberger Muhlbacher, released in 2022. The album is a classical CD. - Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss were united by their deep relationship to literature and especially to poetry as a source of inspiration for it's musical interpretation and transcendence into a sphere of expression that reflected their own feelings about life. Nevertheless, both composers worked on their texts in very different ways. While Mahler adjusted the texts through a multitude of interventions - omissions, rearrangements, and even his own additions - according to need and expressive demand, Strauss stuck strictly to the poems. On this release Alois Muhlbacher performs an exciting program combining the lieder of both of these composers. He is joined by pianist Franz Farnberger."Urlicht-Lieder" is a CD that presents a carefully curated selection of art songs and sacred-inspired pieces, with a particular focus on the intimate, spiritual atmosphere suggested by the title "Urlicht" ("primeval light"). Interpreted by Alois Mühlbacher and Franz Farnberger, the album places the expressive human voice at the center, supported by a sensitive and stylistically refined accompaniment. The program explores themes of transcendence, consolation, and inner contemplation, offering listeners a journey from quiet introspection to radiant musical light. The recording emphasizes clarity of text, nuanced phrasing, and a warm, transparent sound picture that invites repeated listening and rewards detailed attention.
Alois Mühlbacher has attracted attention especially through his finely controlled vocal technique and remarkable musicality at a young age, evolving from a promising young soloist into a mature artist with a strong sense for style and text interpretation. His performances are characterized by expressive intensity and a natural, unforced vocal line. Franz Farnberger, at his side, provides a flexible and responsive partnership that underlines the emotional depth of each piece without ever overpowering the voice, demonstrating a keen awareness of balance, sound color, and musical architecture. Together, they shape "Urlicht-Lieder" into a coherent recital that feels both personal and timeless, ideal for listeners who appreciate art song, spiritual repertoire, or introspective vocal music.
The CD is released by Ars Produktion, a label renowned in the classical music world for its audiophile standards and artist-focused projects.
