This version is very similar to [r11068198], but the label side of the disc is different."Yanqui U.X.O." is a powerful, politically charged album by the Canadian post-rock collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor, presented here in the classic CD format. Across long, mostly instrumental compositions, the band builds vast soundscapes that shift from fragile, minimal passages to overwhelming, cathartic climaxes. Guitars, strings, bass and drums interweave with subtle field recordings to create a cinematic listening experience that invites reflection on war, power and resistance. The album stands out for its dynamic range and emotional depth, rewarding focused listening on good speakers or headphones.
On this CD edition, "Yanqui U.X.O." unfolds as a cohesive journey rather than a collection of singles. Each track evolves patiently, with repeating motifs and slow builds that are hallmarks of the post-rock genre. The production highlights the organic interplay of the musicians, avoiding glossy polish in favor of a raw, human atmosphere. It is a record that can serve both as an intense head-phone immersion and as a dramatic backdrop for reading, contemplation or late-night listening.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor are pioneers of modern post-rock, known for sprawling compositions, political undertones and a strong DIY ethos. Emerging from Montreal's underground scene in the 1990s, they have become one of the most influential instrumental bands in alternative music, inspiring countless artists with their blend of orchestral textures, noise and rock dynamics. Their albums are frequently cited in lists of the most important post-rock releases, and their intense live performances have earned them a dedicated international following.
The CD is released by Constellat, a label known for championing adventurous, independent music far from the mainstream. With a focus on artistic freedom, careful curation and high-quality physical editions, Constellat has built a reputation among music lovers who seek distinctive sounds and thoughtfully presented releases. Their catalog highlights bands that push boundaries, and "Yanqui U.X.O." fits perfectly into this tradition as a demanding, resonant work that rewards repeated engagement. | | | Manufacturer No.: |

Ian J. - 10/Apr/2023 This is not my favorite Godspeed You! Black Emperor album, however, it is still an essential listen in their discography.
| | Igor G. - 17/Jul/2018 Released in November 2002 by Constellation Records, “Yanqui U.X.O.” is the third studio album by the Canadian experimental music ensemble GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR. It was the first album recorded outside of the country – in Chicago, Illinois at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio studios in late 2001. Featuring 5 tracks clocking in at about 75 minutes (“Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls” and “Motherfucker=Redeemer, Part 1” are over 20 minutes long), “Yanqui U.X.O.” is arguably the most mysterious and intriguing band’s recording, described by Efrim Menuck as “raw, angry, dissonant, epic instrumental rock”. However, instead of aggressively wild political Rock (a la Black Flag or The Dead Kennedys), one will find here plastic, contemporary classical structures, slow minimalist developments, complex dynamic tensions, tonal extensions of simple melodic frames, dense orchestral arrangements, highly texturized sound, pronouncedly articulated dissonances between electric guitars, keyboards, and a string section accelerated by drums… Yes, it’s all instrumental album. And the music has very strong cinematic aura. It’s not so easy to understand the language GY!BE use to express their thoughts and deliver their message. But the more you open yourself to the music and sound, the better you feel huge devotion, concern, frustration, harshness, and severity “Yanqui U.X.O.” is filled with. Awesome work, very deep and consistent… but it might take time to understand its flow.
| | deejays - 11/Nov/2003 Godspeed You!
