Description:
"Free Hand" on CD is a landmark progressive rock album by Gentle Giant, showcasing the band at the height of their creative powers. Complex time signatures, intricate vocal harmonies and inventive arrangements meet surprisingly accessible melodies, making this recording a perfect entry point into the band's world as well as a treasure for long-time fans. The production highlights the dynamic interplay between guitar, keyboards, woodwinds and a powerful rhythm section, while the lyrics explore themes of communication, independence and human relationships with intelligence and wit. As a CD edition, this release offers clear, detailed sound that brings out the nuances of the multi-layered compositions and carefully crafted vocal counterpoints, making it especially rewarding for attentive listening on high-fidelity systems or headphones.
Gentle Giant, formed in the late 1960s in the UK, are regarded as one of the most adventurous and innovative bands of the progressive rock era. Known for their virtuosity, they combined rock with elements of classical, medieval, jazz and folk music, often switching instruments on stage and in the studio. Over the course of the 1970s they built a devoted international following and left a lasting influence on later generations of progressive and experimental rock artists. Albums such as "Free Hand" are frequently cited by fans and critics as cornerstones of the genre, demonstrating the group's unique blend of complexity, originality and strong songwriting.

Superb! This is probably the best remastered of this album to date. Well, the single disc version is good too. Highly recommend to fans of this wonderful group.
