The vinyl is pressed as a opaque disc. - Crom is the ultimate amalgamation of mystery mixed with futility. They are one of the most frustratingly undefinable bands out there - mixing general metal aesthetic into a stew of subgenres ranging from sludge and doom to perfectly cultivated thrash parts and plenty of punk, hardcore, and powerviolence influence spices to get a perfect boiling mixture that has been thought about and talked about since it came out originally in 2001. The original release came out on a band member's label alongside releases from DYSTOPIA, GRIEF, EYEHATEGOD, and 16 to name a few and Crom is fully deserving to stand next to those bands. In 2023 we have taken the original masters and given them the white glove treatment and enlisted Nick Townsend whose mastering and audio work includes such big releases from JIMI HENDRIX to PEARL JAM to DR DRE to NAILS to the DIY likes of REGIONAL JUSTICE CENTER and FIREBURN. Nick worked with Phil from the band to create a perfect representation of what this release needed to sound bigger and fuller in the over twenty-year time since it came out. This definitive edition is the best sounding time capsule of what the band really encompasses and deserves. Similar attention has been given to the artwork, with freshly scanned Carlos Vera artwork and the vinyl version has the cover art sized perfectly to fit it's gatefold cover. The resulting release will have you smashing high gravity Steel Reserve along side the band. To quote the mostly unreleased unofficial Crom documentary trailer "How does the audience respond to Crom? By either leaving or losing their fucking mind". This record will make you do the latter."Cocaine Wars 1974-1990" is a CD release by Crom that collects raw, aggressive and unpolished material from the period suggested in the title. The album channels a dark, abrasive sound that moves between hardcore punk, grind and noise-laden extremity, with short, intense tracks built on furious riffing, relentless drums and harsh, shouted vocals. Rather than polished studio perfection, this CD celebrates a confrontational underground aesthetic: distorted guitars, dense mid-range production and a claustrophobic atmosphere that reflects the social and political tensions often associated with the era. The sequencing of the tracks creates a continuous sense of escalation, making the album suitable both for focused listening with good headphones and for loud playback in a live-like setting.
The CD format underlines the archival and collectible character of this release, offering a tangible document of Crom's work for dedicated fans of extreme music. It is aimed at listeners who appreciate uncompromising, DIY-oriented sounds and who are interested in the rough edges and historical roots of underground scenes. Liner notes, artwork and overall presentation focus on an austere, minimalist aesthetic that matches the harsh sonic content and makes the disc an attractive item for collectors of obscure and intense recordings.
Crom is an underground project known for delivering raw, no-frills extremity rather than broad commercial appeal. The act has built its reputation within niche circles through brutally direct compositions, energetic performances and a refusal to smooth out any of the abrasive elements that define its sound. Instead of chart success or mainstream exposure, Crom's recognition comes from word-of-mouth, tape-trading culture and the support of dedicated fans who value authenticity and intensity over accessibility. This reputation has given Crom a cult following among listeners of hardcore, grind and related extreme styles.
The CD is released by To Live A Lie, an independent label recognized in the underground for its focus on fast, harsh and uncompromising music such as powerviolence, grindcore and hardcore punk. To Live A Lie has become a trusted name for fans seeking high-energy, confrontational releases, working closely with bands and projects that operate outside the mainstream. The label is known for carefully curated catalogues, attention to physical formats like CDs, cassettes and vinyl, and a strong DIY ethic that supports small artists and keeps extreme music accessible to the community that sustains it. This release fits perfectly within that philosophy, presenting Crom's material with the intensity and integrity that To Live A Lie stands for. |
