CALDERA

Caldera was an American Latin jazz fusion band that rose to fame in the late 1970s, captivating audiences all over the world with their unique brand of music. The band was formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1976, under the leadership of jazz musician Eduardo del Barrio. Caldera's music was a unique fusion of Latin, jazz, R&B, funk, and rock. Their music was characterized by the use of brass instruments such as trumpets, saxophones, and trombones, combined with electric guitars, keyboards, and percussion instruments. This eclectic mix of sounds made their music stand out from other Latin jazz bands in the scene. The band's eponymous debut album, Caldera, released in 1976, received critical acclaim and established them as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. The album showcased their unique fusion sound and was a commercial success, earning the band a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Recording in 1977. Caldera's follow-up album, Sky Islands, released in 1977, was similarly successful. The album showcased more of the band's musicianship and featured collaborations with renowned musicians such as Carlos Santana and Flora Purim. Sky Islands was also nominated for a Grammy award in 1978. The band's third album, Time and Chance, released in 1978, marked a change in their sound. The album featured a more polished and refined sound, with more emphasis on vocals and a more commercial appeal. Time and Chance is considered the band's most successful album, featuring hit singles such as "Out of the Blue" and "Coastal Dreams." Caldera's success continued into the 1980s, with the release of their fourth album, Dreamer, in 1980. Dreamer showcased the band's versatility and featured a more refined and mature sound. The album was well received by critics but did not achieve the commercial success of their previous albums. The band continued to perform and record throughout the 1980s and 1990s but did not achieve the same level of success as before. They disbanded in 1996 but left a lasting legacy in the music industry. Caldera was a band that pushed the boundaries of Latin jazz, creating a unique fusion sound that captivated audiences all over the world. Their music continues to inspire musicians to this day, and their legacy lives on in the hearts of their fans. Caldera will always be remembered as one of the most innovative and creative Latin jazz bands of all time.
