Die Zusammenarbeit erwies sich als extrem faszinierendes Projekt, das Punk-, New-Wave- und sogar New-Romantic-Elemente zu bedeutungsschwerem Pop/Rock, mit einem leidenschaftlichen keltischen Einschlag und grimmiger Integrität, miteinander verband.
Durch den Einsatz von Effekten erinnerten die klingenden Gitarren von Adamson und Watson an traditionelle schottische Instrumente. Dies war einzigartig und erwies sich als äu�erst einflussreich. Innerhalb eines Jahres nach ihrer ersten Veröffentlichung begannen viele bestehende Bands, den Sound der Band zu imitieren, jedoch schaffte es niemand jemals wirklich den Sound von Big Country zu erreichen.
1986 wurde das Album â??The Seerâ?? veröffentlicht, welches â??Look Awayâ??, die gröÃ?te britische Hit-Single der Band enthielt - eine glorreiche 80er-Jahre-Rock-Hymne, die die Arme in die Luft streckt. Wie um zu unterstreichen, wie hoch das Ansehen von Big Country inzwischen war, wirkte Kate Bush - die nicht dafür bekannt ist, ihre Dienste leichtfertig anzubieten - als Gastsängerin im Titelsong des Albums mit.
Das melodienreiche Album - das Platz 2 der britischen Charts und die Billboard Top 60 erreichte (Deutschlang #16 / Schweiz #15) - wurde von Robin Millar produziert, erforscht die schottische Geschichte und zeigt, wie sehr Stuart Adamson als Songwriter gereift war.
Diese Re-Issue ist eine originalgetreue Nachbildung der Mercury Records UK-Veröffentlichung von 1986 und wurde auf hochwertiges 180g-Vinyl gepresst. - Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Formed by ex-Skids guitarist Stuart Adamson in 1981 with old friend Bruce Watson and, from 1982, rhythm section Tony Butler and Mark Brzezicki, Big Country proved a fascinating proposition, adding punk, new wave and even new romantic elements to heavy, meaning-laden pop/rock with a passionate Celtic slant and fierce integrity. Using effects, Adamson and Watson's chiming guitars evoked traditional Scottish instruments. This was unique and proved highly influential. Within a year of their first release, many existing bands began to emulate the group's sound. Nobody achieved it quite like Big Country. The Seer, released in 1986, contained the group's biggest UK hit single, Look Away, a glorious arms- in- the- air 80s rock anthem. As if to underline quite how highly regarded Big Country had become, Kate Bush - not one known to offer her services lightly - guests on the album's title track. The melody- rich album - which reached No. 2 in the UK charts and made the Billboard Top 60 - produced by Robin Millar, explores Scottish history, and demonstrates quite how Stuart Adamson had matured as a songwriter. |
