| Description: | Georges Kisselhoff was a true pioneer of sound aesthetics in classical music, experimenting as one of the first with quadrophonic recordings, always aiming for the ideal, natural and organic sound. In 2012, a set of original analogue tapes by Kisselhoff was rediscovered, manually cleaned and carefully remastered, using fully analogue equipment. The results are presented in this collection of timeless beauty and unheard audiophile quality. Recorded in 1977 and 1978, Andre Navarra's version is full of presence and breathes musicality in every second. This recording has been awarded with the French "Grand Prix du Disque."This premium edition of "The Cello Suites BWV 1007-1012" presents Johann Sebastian Bach's legendary solo cello cycles in the noble SACD+CD combination, interpreted by the distinguished cellist André Navarra. The hybrid concept allows you to enjoy the recordings in high-resolution multichannel or stereo on SACD, while the additional CD guarantees perfect compatibility with all conventional CD players. The result is a production that unites audiophile sound culture with everyday practicality. Each of the six suites unfolds with clarity and expressive depth: from the radiant opening of the G-major Suite BWV 1007 to the introspective, almost meditative D-major Suite BWV 1012, this edition offers a coherent journey through Bach's complete solo cello cosmos. Navarra's reading focuses on structural transparency, noble tone and a finely balanced sense of rhythm and phrasing, allowing the polyphonic lines and inner voices to emerge naturally without ever losing the singing quality of the instrument. PHAIA, as the manufacturer, stands for carefully curated classical productions that place equal emphasis on artistic integrity and technical refinement. The label is known for high-quality remasterings and meticulously produced new issues that respect the original sound image while opening it up to the possibilities of modern high-resolution formats. With this release, PHAIA underlines its commitment to presenting reference-worthy interpretations of key works in the classical repertoire in formats that meet contemporary audiophile demands. André Navarra (1911-1988) was one of the most important cellists of the 20th century and a formative figure for entire generations of musicians. Trained in the great French cello tradition, he quickly achieved international recognition through his combination of technical mastery, sovereign bow control and a warm, focused tone. Navarra appeared with leading orchestras worldwide and worked with renowned conductors of his time; he also left behind a significant discography that includes central works of the cello literature, from the classical concertos to modern compositions. As an influential pedagogue, he taught at major European institutions and shaped the playing of many later star cellists. His Bach interpretations are valued for their stylistic awareness and spiritual concentration - qualities that make this edition of the Cello Suites especially attractive for connoisseurs and newcomers alike. |
